What we seek:

OCHC is looking for a resourceful Maintenance Worker to assist our tenants regarding any of their maintenance needs. Reporting to the Property Manager, the Maintenance Worker will help to repair, and upkeep occupied and vacant units, as well as common areas and grounds.

 

Maintenance Worker with OCHC:

You will deliver change and create a positive impact in our tenant’s lives everyday and no two days will be the same. You will be the reason that our tenants can live comfortably in their homes knowing that their problems will be solved.

 

As a Maintenance Worker, some of the things you will do include:

  •        Complete repairs and improvements to OCHC properties (interior and exterior)
  •        Repair or replace electrical hardware (i.e., smoke detectors, switches, and doorbells.)
  •        Install or repair plumbing fixtures
  •        Clean up of vacant units and yard
  •        Maintain and test emergency lighting systems, fire extinguishers and other emergency tools
  •        Represent OCHC in a positive manner

What you bring:

Education & Experience:            

A typical candidate will have the following qualifications and experience.  Exceptional candidates with different qualifications will be considered at the discretion of the employer if demonstrated experience, knowledge, and ability warrant.

  •        Completion of Grade 10
  •        Oral fluency, reading and writing abilities in English
  •        Relevant training in building maintenance
  •        Minimum of two (2) years experience in construction or building maintenance
  •        Working knowledge of applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  •        Working knowledge of hand and power tools

 

Skills and abilities:

  •        Effective communication skills
  •        Ability to overcome social and cultural barriers to communication
  •        Ability to follow protocols while performing maintenance tasks
  •        Possess physical and technical capabilities to perform related duties
  •        Ability to speak French or additional languages commonly used by OCHC tenants is an asset
  •        Ability to effectively manage and address the needs of individuals with diverse socio-economical challenges
  •        Competent at using electronic devices such as smartphones and/or tablets

 

Work conditions:

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) on-site position.

 

Other requirements:

  •        Satisfactory Criminal Records Check
  •        Possess a valid Class “G” driver’s license or equivalent
