Journeyperson Mechanic

Location: Edmonton, AB

SOUTHLAND is currently looking for experienced Mechanics to join our team in Edmonton.  Current openings are for Journeyperson Mechanics (either Heavy Duty or Automotive).

Journeyperson Mechanics are currently eligible for a $2,000 hiring bonus! This will be paid out following 3 months of continuous employment.

Key Responsibilities

The Journeyman Mechanic is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities as the Mechanic may be required to perform field work on down buses.

  • Ongoing maintenance / repair of buses
  • Diagnose equipment problems
  • CVIP Inspections
  • Preventive Maintenance (PM) Inspections
  • Respond to road call breakdowns
  • Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
  • Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
  • Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Mechanic ticket (Heavy Duty or Automotive)
  • 2 – 5 years related experience
  • School bus and diesel repair experience considered an asset
  • Engine repair experience desired
  • Valid class 5 driver’s licence (class 2 or 3 considered an asset)
  • CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an asset
  • Own hand tools
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Ability to comprehend/operate diagnostic and manual measuring tools
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Willingness to mentor Apprentices
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at once

Remuneration

  • Commensurate with experience
  • Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)
