Detail Designer III, Electrical

Job Grade - 5

The Electrical Detail Designer III is responsible for 3D modeling and producing complete Manufacturing Information (MI) within the prescribed plans, schedules, and budgets to support production at VSY.

The Electrical Detail Designer III ensures that Detail Design MI is generated and in accordance with the VSY Standards, Quality and VSY Engineering Processes. This role is responsible for actively engaging in Model and MI Reviews and for 3D modeling, production design, MI generation and implementation of lessons learned.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Delivers discipline-specific 3D Modelling and MI generation.
  • Makes integration decisions and develops design.
  • Prepares Manufacturing Information for all Stages of Construction.
  • Collaborate with System Responsible Engineer to resolve design issues.
  • Provides technical support to production.
  • Maintains stock catalogue with constant communication with procurement and material management.
  • Develops and communicates plan and budget for delivering work on time and monitors the cost and resources.
  • Supports production outputs to ensure the resulting work packages for manufacturing are in alignment with VSY standards and processes.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Associate Design degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 - 6 years of experience in Electrical Detailed Design in Shipbuilding (or similar industry).

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Demonstrates effective communication across a variety of subject areas.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently to develop solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of CAD software.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cable routing software.
  • Ability to communicate at different levels; written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
  • Organizational skills including the ability to maintain organized in a changing environment, multi-task and prioritize.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgments and ability to make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions and corporate philosophy.
