Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis

Job Grade - 7

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, Seaspan Shipyards, the Finance Manager, FP&A is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities around financial planning and analysis for Seaspan Shipyards entities. This includes budgeting and business planning, short and long-term forecasting, cash position reporting, Board and senior management reporting, and strategic financial analysis and decision support. This role partners with executive management and business teams to consolidate and analyze results, while driving standardization and performance across the organization.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you’ll do

  • Manage improved and systematic budgeting and strategic financial planning processes, including long term profit and loss, cash flow and balance sheet forecasts, to ensure that financial results are aligned with the strategic objectives of the business.
  • Drive forecast & reporting improvements that deliver improved forecast accuracy; including presentation of assumptions and validation of inputs with business leaders.
  • Monitor short and medium-term cash flow forecasts, and the distribution of the completed weekly Cash forecasts Reports.
  • Manage the preparation of financial presentations to the Board of Directors and Leadership Team.
  • Produce weekly and monthly business performance measurements and KPIs for the Leadership Team.
  • Initiate and manage the standard report formats and data definitions required for divisional standardized financial reporting.
  • Manage the delivery of ad hoc and strategic analyses to enhance profitability and support key project initiatives, including operating cost review, profitability analysis and financing proposals.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual variance analysis for operational costs, including direct and indirect spend, non-controllable costs and overhead expense.
  • Support the development and reporting of operational and financial metrics to support divisional decision making.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA is desirable.
  • Masters or Professional Designation (CPA, CFA, etc.) is required.
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience in accounting or finance, with at least 5 years in an analytical role. Experience in modelling, analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial analysis concepts, practices, processes and procedures.
  • Advanced financial, economic and excel modelling and data analysis.
  • Communications skills with ability to communicate with others with tact and diplomacy.
  • Proficient digital literacy including Microsoft PowerPoint and presentation tools.
  • Multi-tasking, prioritization and planning abilities.
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking, negotiating, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Results oriented, open minded, and possesses a high level of integrity.
  • Skilled at asking probing questions to deepen understanding of business issues.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization.
