The Town of Oakville – Oakville Museum is looking for a part-time instructor to lead Drama/Performing Arts Summer Camps from July 6 – August 21, 2026. 

Job Responsibilities:

The Part time Specialized Instructor/Arts and Culture is responsible for preparing program outlines and providing instruction (demonstrating techniques and introducing contemporary performing arts practices) in specialized drama camps to children 7-12 years. The successful candidate must be reliable, work independently with minimal supervision, meet all program goals and will be expected to assist in developing curriculum. They will also ensure that the program is conducted in a safe environment that encourages participation and personal development.

You will also be required to:

• Deliver a program of daily activities that are safe, creative, age appropriate and inclusive of all program participants alongside camp leaders.
• Prepare, lead and deliver drama classes, to meet the needs of all participants registered in the program, with the expectation to deliver a final end of program performance.
• Research and develop age-appropriate drama programming for beginner and practicing participants, ensuring that there is a role for all participants.
• Ensure on-site safety of participants while encouraging participation and personal development.
• Ensure the care, security, and protection of the Museum site, and collections.
• Respond to emergency situations and behaviour management issues in accordance with department approved procedures.
• Deliver exceptional customer service (welcoming, conduct and communication) to all participants, caregivers and staff.
• Assist with attendance tracking, registration updates, and incident reports as required.
• Work cooperatively with camp staff, volunteers and supervisory staff.
• Relay information to supervisory staff in a timely manner including challenges and/or recommendations regarding participants or facilities that may affect the program.
• Arrive at the program site in time to properly prepare, set up and start the program according to schedule.
• Attend staff meetings as requested.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

   

Qualifications:

• Completed High School and/or registered (enrolled) in a post-secondary program in one of: Musical Theatre, Theatre Arts, Drama, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated abilities and a strong knowledge of Performing Arts, with a broad range of artistic techniques and practices with theatre (acting/drama).
• Experience developing, scripts, and program plans.
• Experience with delivering a final performance in theatre.
• Enthusiasm and passion for working with school-aged children.
• 1-2 years of experience in a leadership capacity with children in a culture, recreation, and or camp setting with previous specialized teaching experience in theatre.
• Strong organizational, planning, time management and leadership skills.
• Ability to be flexible and adapt instructional practices to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently.
• Training in HIGH FIVE (PHCD) Principles of Healthy Child Development.

• Must possess valid Standard First Aid with CPR C (Emergency First Aid) certification.

   

Applicants should highlight their post-secondary education, and experience leading/teaching school-aged children in drama programs. Candidates will be required to provide a portfolio which outlines these skills including sample lesson plan(s).
