PLAYCARE LEADER I (CHILDMINDING)

The West Vancouver Community Services Department has openings for casual Playcare Leader I (Childminding) positions to begin in the summer, which are responsible for:

·         Guiding, engaging, and caring for infant and pre-school aged children while providing a safe and welcoming environment for both children and parents;

·         organizing activities for children of varying ages and stages of development. This involves: implementing themes; preparing and choosing related materials such as books, songs and puppets; and identifying required materials and supplies;

·         overseeing snack time;

·         ensuring safety of children in the centres and outside areas;

·         monitoring and correcting behavior and enforcing centre policy;

·         administering minor first aid and following accident and emergency procedures;

·         cleaning the centres including tables and floors, washing and tidying toys, washing and folding clothes, tidying the kitchen;

·         explaining the registration process and centres activities; responds to questions and raises concerns to the supervisor when necessary; and

·         establishing and maintaining effective relationships with parents, children, other staff, and volunteers.

 

The successful candidates will have: completed a grade 12 education, courses related to the work and/or sound related experience in childminding or daycare operation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful candidates must have a valid First Aid Certificate and current CPR-C training.

 

The successful candidate is required to supply a police information check with vulnerable sector and a copy of their credentials.

Position Status:

Union (WVMEA) – Casual

Hours of Work:

Up to 20 hours per week. Hours and days of work will vary.

Starting Rate of Pay:

$22.51 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits.

This position has a pay structure with two steps which increases based on the number of hours worked.
