As a student Collections Assistant for the Collections, CWM Division, you will: 

  • Work with the Collection Specialist and/or Technical Services in the movement, handling and storage of artefacts from diverse collections;
  • Update artifact database locations as needed;
  • Fabricate custom artefact housing and packs/moves objects as needed;
  • Work with photographer to facilitate the digitization of museum collections;
  • Confer with supervisors, technical services and conservation staff, Collection Specialists, and other Collections staff members on complex artefacts.

What we are looking for:  

  • A diploma or  working towards a diploma from an accredited program in Conservation, Heritage studies, or Museum studies from a recognized post-secondary institution;
  • Knowledge in Conservation practice, principles, theory, and ethics are an asset;
  • Various computer application software including MS Office Suite and database software such as KE Emu(an asset);
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with site and collections care activities;
  • Holder of a Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) is an asset;
  • Experience handling artifacts and reproductions;
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team; 
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills, precision;
  • Military history knowledge is preferred.

Eligibility criteria:  

  • Must be a full-time student at College or University; 
  • Must be returning to full-time studies next session (a proof will be required);
  • Bilingualism, an asset;
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Working conditions:  

  • 37.5 hours per week;
  •  Ability to employ and work in personal protective equipment (PPE);
  • Ability to stand for hours at a time and lift up to 15 kg (lb);
  • Hybrid work possible: None, work on site. 

Compensation:  $17.00/hour to $23.62/hour – variation according to the student’s level of education 
Duration: May 27, 2024 to August 16, 2024 
Workplace:  1 Vimy Place Ottawa, ON K1A 0M8 
Security Clearance: Enhanced Reliability
