Who We Are

Advancement and Alumni Engagement (AAE) is committed to working and nurturing relationships with donors and alumni to advance new ideas that positively impact our communities, such as addressing environmental concerns and providing lifelong value for students and encourage investment in programs that are transforming the landscape of teaching, research, and learning across the institution.

About the Role

The Associate Director, Advancement is responsible for managing relationships with donor prospects determined to have the ability to make major gifts at the $10K to $100K plus level and managing individual, corporate and foundation prospects at the major gift level by developing and implementing strategies for securing financial support by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding these relationships. The incumbent provides support to and works in partnership as a member of the central Advancement team to develop and implement strategies that facilitate and generate maximum funding and stewardship support for the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The role also includes maintaining up-to-date contact reports, donor plans, and solicitation outcome records in the Blackbaud system. The incumbent is required to meet annual key performance activity metric targets determined for the level of the role by the Executive Director, Advancement. This position represents the Advancement arm of the Faculty of Health Sciences, the students, and the institution. Incorrect decisions or judgement will directly affect the faculty and SFU's reputation with the employer community, future alumni, prospects, donors, and faculty. Strong critical, analytical, and strategic thinking skills and adaptability to ongoing changes are essential for this position, as the incumbent must be able to work independently and devise appropriate strategies in consultation with the reporting supervisor and Faculty Dean.

The ideal candidate would possess a health-related degree with extensive fundraising experience; CFRE designation and Blackbaud experience considered an asset, including 5+ years working in Advancement at a post-secondary institution, display excellent donor and stakeholder cultivation and solicitation skills with a high degree of professionalism working with Faculty staff and/or researchers, and advanced working knowledge of academic health sciences and related research to support faculty funding priorities.
